Top Vedic Maths Multiplication Techniques
1. Multiplication by 11 (Instant Answer Trick)
This is one of the easiest Vedic Maths tricks! You can quickly multiply any number by 11 using a simple pattern.
Example: 43 × 11
✔ Split the digits: 4 _ 3
✔ Add the two digits: 4 + 3 = 7
✔ Insert the sum in between: 473
✔ Answer: 43 × 11 = 473
2. Multiplication of Numbers Close to 100 (Base Method)
This method is useful for multiplying numbers near a power of 10 (like 100, 1000, etc.).
Example: 97 × 96
✔ Find the deviation from 100: (97 is -3) & (96 is -4)
✔ Multiply deviations: -3 × -4 = 12
✔ Cross subtract: 97 - 4 or 96 - 3 = 93
✔ Final answer: 9312
✔ So, 97 × 96 = 9312
3. The Vertically and Crosswise Method (General Multiplication)
This is a versatile method for multiplying any two-digit numbers easily.
Example: 23 × 41
✔ Multiply the units place: 3 × 1 = 3
✔ Cross-multiply and add: (2 × 1) + (3 × 4) = 2 + 12 = 14
✔ Multiply the tens place: 2 × 4 = 8
✔ Arrange the numbers: (8)(14)(3)
✔ Answer: 943
✔ So, 23 × 41 = 943
4. Doubling & Halving Method (For Even Multiplication)
When one number is even, divide it by 2 and multiply the other number by 2.
Example: 16 × 25
✔ Half 16 → 8
✔ Double 25 → 50
✔ Multiply: 8 × 50 = 400
✔ So, 16 × 25 = 400
5. Multiplication by Series of 9.
When one number is multiply by series of 9 like 9, 99, 999, 9999 then we can use this wonderful calculation trick
Example: 26 × 99
✔ Reduce 26 by 1 → 25 (L.H.S)
✔ apply all from 9 and the last from 10 in 26 i.e. (9-2) (10-6) → 74 (R.H.S)
✔ Combine both the sides : 2574
✔ So, 26 × 99 = 2574
How These Tricks Help in Competitive Exams?
Competitive exams like CAT, SSC, Banking, and RBI Grade-B require fast calculations.
